Story
Snowbaby, a handsome kitty from Virginia, desperately needs a life-saving treatment! He was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, which is usually easily maintained with daily medication. However, in rare cases, some cats like Snowbaby experience adverse side effects, including vomiting, anorexia, fever, anemia, and lethargy.
Radioactive iodine therapy (I-131) is the treatment of choice for cats with hyperthyroidism who can not take oral medication. However, this treatment requires handling radioactive drugs, so it's only available at certain veterinary hospitals. The closest clinic for Snowbaby is 3 hours away in Maryland.
The radiation destroys the abnormal thyroid tissue without damaging the surrounding tissues or the parathyroid glands. The majority of cats treated with radioactive iodine have normal hormone levels within one to two weeks of treatment. Snowbaby will need to be hospitalized for 5 days after treatment and once home he will be isolated from his furry friends for 2 weeks.
The treatment is very expensive and has been estimated between $3,066.47- 3,643.58. Snowbabyβs mom is very low-income; she receives disability benefits after a horrific car crash 25 years ago left her disabled. Snowbaby has lost a lot of weight and muscle mass, this treatment will SAVE Snowbabyβs life!
Please, can you help Snowbaby receive the life-saving treatment he urgently needs?
