Snowbaby is home and doing well!๐
Snowbaby is home and doing well after receiving Radioactive Iodine therapy to treat his Hyperthyroidism condition. An area on his back leg was shaved and a one-time injection was given subcutaneously (i.e. under the skin), just like a vaccine. Snowbaby was hospitalized for 5 days after the treatment so he could be closely monitored and reduce the exposure of radiation to his mom and furry friends. Snowbabyโs treatment went well and his veterinarian said he was a model patient and very talkative! ๐น
Snowbabyโs mom said he is eating and going to the litter box normally, however, Snowbaby is a little upset because his mom is not allowed to pick him up or give hugs and pets until the isolation period of 2 weeks is complete. Due to the use of radioactive drugs, pet patients must remain away from other pets and have limited contact with their hoomans. ๐ฟ
The collection of Snowbabyโs litter box waste must also be handled very carefully as radiation is excreted in the urine. The waste is double bagged and stored in a well-ventilated space away from primary living areas and held for an additional 2 weeks so natural decay will reduce radioactivity to background levels, then disposed of with normal trash. Snowbaby will have a check-up and bloodwork 1, 2 & 3 months post-treatment.
Thank you to everyone who made this life-saving treatment possible for this handsome boy, we are truly blessed. YOU SAVED SNOWBABYโS LIFE! ๐ฝ
