Story
The Emergency Fund helped a young Ohio kitty with a life-saving surgery in April. Gizmo was experiencing pain, he was violently vomiting and wasn’t urinating. His mom rushed him to the Emergency hospital and the exam revealed he had a deadly blockage from urinary crystals that became logged in his urethra.
Gizmo was immediately hospitalized and a urinary catheter was placed. His bloodwork showed dangerously high BUN and Creatinine levels. He was given continuous IV fluids to flush his bladder and urethra and treated with antibiotics and pain medication. Gizmo needed to be treated until he could urinate on his own. However, overnight Gizmo somehow got his cone off and ripped out his urinary catheter; and he was blocked again.
The Emergency veterinarian gave Gizmo’s mom a choice to re-catheterize him and hope once it’s removed he does not become blocked again or perform Peripheral Urethrostomy (PU) surgery to widen his urethra permanently. The best and most effective option was to do surgery. Gizmo had surgery and his recovery went well. After 3 days, Gizmo finally went home to his family!
Today, Gizmo is a happy and healthy kitty cat, thanks to the Emergency Fund that supported his care. This fund plays a vital role in our mission to rescue pets requiring urgent and life-saving veterinary treatment.
