Story

River, a 9-month-old kitten from Oregon, needs surgery to repair a huge umbilical cord hernia. River was adopted from a shelter when she was 8 weeks old, and she appeared to be healthy.

At 6 months old, River’s mom made an appointment to spay River at a low-cost spay and neuter clinic; however, the veterinarian discovered River had a hernia and could not continue to do the surgery. She referred River to a veterinary hospital for a consultation.

An umbilical hernia is a condition where part of the abdominal organs protrudes through a weakened area in the abdominal wall near the belly button (umbilicus). Most umbilical hernias in kittens close on their own within a few months. However, in some cases, the hernia does not close, and surgery is necessary to prevent it from becoming incarcerated or causing other complications.

Surgery has been estimated between $1,095.54 and 1,369.43. However, River’s mom had the money for her spay at the low-cost clinic, but this surgery is far beyond her current means and has desperately sought financial help for her sweet tabby girl.

River has a bright future ahead, and this surgery will help her live a long and healthy life. Can you help River get the surgery she desperately needs?
