Story
Alvin, a pretty tabby from Iowa, was diagnosed with Glaucoma, a painful eye condition that causes a buildup of fluid in the eyeball that puts pressure on the optic nerve. Alvin has been treated for several months with eye drops and steroids; however, it has not significantly reduced the pressure. Due to the damage the glaucoma has caused, Alvin has lost vision in her right eye; her veterinarian has recommended Enucleation surgery to remove the eye. Without surgery, Alvinβs eye could rupture!
However, the surgery has been estimated at $1,566.51, something Alvinβs mom cannot afford. Alvinβs mom works as a cashier; she manages to get by with day-to-day expenses however, the cost of Alvinβs surgery is far beyond her means. She said, βI have a job, and I am happy to spend every last dollar I have to make her feel better. I just don't make enough to cover the surgery and pay my bills.β
Alvinβs furever mom adopted her at 5 months old from a neighbor who was moving; she was told Alvin was a boy; however, when Alvin went to the veterinary clinic to be neutered, the veterinarian informed his mom that Alvin is a girl! Because Alvin had already gotten used to her name, her mom decided not to change it.
Alvinβs mom was facing euthanizing her pretty tabby girl to spare her the excruciating pain from her eye rupturing; however, her veterinarian referred her to us, and she reached out with the hope that we could help. Alvin is 13 years old; this surgery will ensure she will live out her senior years happy and pain-free!
