Story

The Emergency Fund recently helped this sweet tabby, Mama Kitty, from Florida. Mama Kitty was experiencing severe constipation. Mama Kitty was diagnosed with Megacolon and was prescribed a prescription diet to manage her condition. However, her mom fell into financial hardship due to enduring hurricane Helene and Milton and suffered major damage to her home.

She was temporarily unable to afford Mama Kitty’s much-needed RC Fiber Response 8.8lb Feline prescription food that costs $75.00 a bag. Mama Kitty quickly developed an intestinal blockage.

Her mom reached out to us and said, "Mama Kitty came to me when her Mama Sue, my neighbor across the street, passed away, and Sue's son kicked her out. Mama Kitty was the love of Sue's life. She came crying to my door, and of course, I took her in. I have known Mama Kitty for 8 years; she has lived with me for 4. She is such a sweetheart. She is my sweet girl now, and I feel horrible, and I am letting Miss Sue down. Any help for my baby would be a miracle.”

Mama Kitty was in terrible pain; she needed veterinary intervention immediately. Due to the urgency, we used funds from the Emergency Fund to get Mama Kitty into a veterinary hospital. Mama Kitty was so impacted that an enema did not relieve her symptoms. X-rays showed she had an enormous amount of hard feces in her intestines. Her veterinarian sedated her and manually extracted the feces.

Mama Kitty was given some fluids for dehydration and an anti-nausea injection. We also purchased 3 months of prescription food to help until mom gets back on her feet. Mama Kitty is doing well, and her veterinarian has been put on a diet to lose a pound or two. Her mom said, β€œShe is having normal bowel movements now; I can’t begin to tell you how grateful we are. That food is her lifeline. You saved her! We are so blessed for the miracle of you and FTLOA.”
