Story
Otis, a handsome tuxedo kitty from Iowa, was adopted from a local shelter as a tiny kitten. When Otis was 5 months old, he suddenly stopped eating. His furever mom took him to a local veterinary clinic, and they found one of his deciduous (baby) teeth was growing into his soft palette, causing him significant pain. Due to the tooth's location, his veterinarian referred Otis to a Speciality Veterinary Hospital because of the high risk of breaking Otis’s tiny jaw!
The specialist dental surgeon recommended doing the surgery as soon as possible because as Otis grows, the tooth will create more problems and cause him more pain. Otis was running a fever, and his bloodwork showed that Otis’s white blood cell count was high, indicating he had an infection due to the tooth.
Otis also has a slight heart murmur; an echo revealed that it is an innocent murmur probably caused by an infection but would not affect him having surgery. Otis was treated with a 10-day course of antibiotics and given pain medication.
Otis has been cleared for surgery however, due to the complexity of the surgery, as this is not a regular tooth extraction, surgery has been estimated between $790.00 and $1,078.28. However, Otis’s mom lives on a very low income and has exhausted her care credit account with over $1,000.00 for Otis’s medical care so far; she is heartbroken she cannot afford his surgery.
Otis’s impacted tooth is affecting his overall health; this little guy needs surgery to extract the tooth, not only to alleviate his pain but to give Otis back his kittenhood!
