THE EMERGENCY FUND is helping this handsome New Jersey boy have surgery tomorrow! π
Over the holiday, we received an urgent plea for help. Bagel had a life-threatening urinary blockage and was hospitalized with a urinary catheter. Bagel had suffered back-to-back blockages, and the emergency veterinarian recommended perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery to widen Bagelβs urethra to prevent another deadly occurrence.
At just 5 years old, Bagel has a long life to live; this surgery will SAVE his LIFE! Bagel has been hospitalized since Monday. The hospitalization so far and the cost of surgery has been estimated between $5,587.40 - 6,334.90.
His mom had spent every penny she had on his previous blockages and was facing surrendering Bagel or humanely euthanizing him due to financial hardship.
His mom said, βBagel is a cat with cat hardware but runs on dog software. He cuddles, spoons, fetches, and burrs around the house all night long. I got Bagel after tragically losing my mom, dad, and Mamaw within 6 months of each other. Heβs the light of my life!β

UPDATE ON HANDSOME BAGEL! π₯―
Bagel's surgery went well, and he was discharged later this afternoon. Bagel will need restricted activity until his check-up and suture removal in 10-14 days and a prescription urinary diet for the rest of his life.
We used funds from the Emergency Fund π to cover the cost, which was a little more than estimated due to the additional two days of hospitalization.

BAGEL HAD A SLIGHT POST-OP COMPLICATION! πΏ
The Emergency Fund covered the cost of Bagel's surgery, and he was recovering at home. However, his mom contacted us Monday, concerned that Bagel's incision area was oozing, and asked if she could take him back to the veterinary hospital for a check-up.
The examination confirmed that Bagel's incision area was infected, and he was given another round of antibiotics. We will have more updates on this handsome boy soon! π
