Story

The Emergency Fund helped Millie, a beautiful pup from Texas, who had torn her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in her back right leg. A CCL is a connective tissue that connects the shin bone to the thigh bone and stabilizes the knee. A torn CCL is a serious injury that can limit a dog's mobility.

Millie had been walking on three legs and limping for several months. Her mom said, β€œYou can tell the leg bothers her and is painful to walk on. She will not let anyone touch her leg, either.”

Millie was referred to a specialist surgeon who recommended implant surgery (Tightrope surgery), which is less invasive, costs less, and has a better recovery process than traditional Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) surgery. However, the surgery was estimated to cost over $3,800, and Millie’s mom couldn't afford it.

She reached out to family and friends for help and, fortunately, managed to raise half the cost. One of her friends and a For The Love Of Alex donor suggested she contact us to see if we could cover the remaining balance.

This sweet pup had been in pain for too long; we had to assist her! With funds in the Emergency Fund, Millie received the surgery she desperately needed. Her recovery took several months, but today, Millie is back enjoying life, going on walks with her mom and napping in her favorite chair.

The Emergency Fund supports pets like Millie, whose families have done everything they can to raise money for their beloved pets’ medical care but still fall short of the total amount. If you would like to help more furbabies like Millie, please donate to our Emergency Fund today.
