Story

A freakish accident has left this little Lancaster, Pennsylvania, pup with a broken front leg. Max was zooming around the house, jumping on and off the couch, when suddenly he fell and landed awkwardly. His mom heard him yelp in pain and found Max holding his leg up.

Max’s mom rushed him to the Emergency clinic late Friday night, and the X-rays showed he had two fractured bones. The veterinarian bandaged Max’s leg to prevent further injury, and Max’s activity has been limited to leash walking only; he was sent home with pain medication.

Max needs surgery to place pins and a plate to hold his broken bones in place so it can heal properly. Unfortunately, the Emergency clinic does not have an orthopedic surgeon on site, and the subsequent availability wouldn’t be for another two weeks, but Max can’t wait that long! Max’s mom is distraught; she can’t bear to see her sweet little guy in pain. Max’s mom is low-income and cannot afford the necessary surgery to mend his leg and alleviate his pain.

We helped Max’s mom find a specialist veterinary hospital an hour away that can see Max this Wednesday and possibly do surgery on Thursday. We have forwarded Max’s medical records and X-rays to the orthopedic surgeon, who gave us a verbal estimate of cost over the phone of $3,500 - 6,000. We will not know the total cost until his consultation.

Let’s show Max that love knows no boundaries and that we are here for him and his mom every step of the way! Please help this little guy get to surgery on Thursday.

It has been 6 weeks since Max's surgery, and he is doing amazing! His surgeon is happy with his progress and Max will need follow-up x-rays in 2 weeks. We will have more updates on Max soon!

Tiny Max had surgery on Thursday to repair a transverse fracture in his right front leg. The surgery went well; the surgeon attached a plate and 6 pins to hold his broken bone in place, and he was discharged late Friday afternoon.
