Story
The Emergency Fund recently helped a young cat from Pennsylvania. Tommy had escaped outside for just a few minutes; upon his return, he was dragging his hind leg. Though there were no visible wounds, his mom said he was shaken up like something traumatic happened and he was crying out in pain when he walked.
Tommyβs mom at the time was between jobs and money was tight; she could not afford a veterinary exam let alone x-rays or a possible surgery cost if Tommyβs leg was broken. She reached out to us for help. Time was of the essence; it had been over 24 since Tommy was injured and without any pain medications this handsome boy was suffering.
We helped with the cost of an Emergency veterinary exam and X-rays. The good news was Tommyβs leg was not broken but he had a significant amount of soft tissue damage and swelling in his foot. He was sent home with antibiotics, pain, and anti-inflammatory medications. Tommy was also put on restricted activity for 7 days to allow his leg to heal. Tommy had a recheck appointment on July 11th and he was given a clean bill of health from his veterinarian.
The Emergency Fund provides immediate assistance to pets like Tommy in dire situations when there is no time for fundraising. Tommy required urgent care, and thanks to the fund, he received the veterinary care he needed. Today, Tommy is a happy, and healthy kitty cat again!
