Ahi The Cat

Ahi, an 8-year-old cat, has been diagnosed with diabetes and severe periodontal disease. Ahi’s blood glucose levels are very high, and his mom, living on disability benefits, cannot afford the necessary medical care. The estimated costs for treatment, including insulin, glucose monitoring, and dental cleaning, are beyond her financial means. Ahi's health is deteriorating, and without help, he may face a slow and painful death.

Story

Ahi, a handsome tuxedo kitty from Hawaii, wasn’t doing well; he had lost a lot of weight despite a vivacious appetite; he was unstable on his back legs and was excessively drooling and his chin was swollen. Ahi’s mom took him to a local veterinary clinic, and the exam and bloodwork revealed that his blood glucose levels were between 300-400! (A cat’s normal BG is 80-120 mg/dL). Ahi was diagnosed with diabetes and severe periodontal disease.

Ahi’s veterinarian recommended a blood glucose curve and starting him on insulin; however, Ahi’s elderly mom had spent over $400 for his exam and senior wellness blood panel. The estimate for glucose monitoring, Vetsulin (insulin), and needles was $235.59. Ahi’s mom lives on disability benefits and has no money left to get Ahi the medical care he needs.

Ahi’s veterinarian also recommends a dental cleaning with extractions; unfortunately, until Ahi’s diabetes is under control, he will not put Ahi under anesthesia. The dental has been estimated between $1,212.46 and 1,526.59, including bloodwork and additional pre and post-surgical monitoring for diabetic patients.

Ahi’s mom said, β€œPlease help my baby Ahi, if I can't find funding, he will die a slow and painful death. He is drooling saliva & pus. I cannot imagine the pain he must be in. As well as, his back legs are splayed out as a symptom of his diabetes. He is not able to grasp the floor properly. It breaks my heart. Please help Ahi.”

Ahi is only eight years old; his furever mom rescued him as a tiny kitten, and he has been a healthy and happy kitty until recently. Your support is crucial in helping Ahi receive the necessary medical care that will enable him to lead a better quality of life.
