Story
We met Bella Mae, a beautiful tuxedo from Maine, in October. Bella Mae was diagnosed with a mammary tumor. Mammary tumors are most common in older, intact female cats but can also affect spayed females like Bella Mae.
Bella Mae's mom could not afford the estimated cost of $2,100.00 for the surgery and contacted us for help. We were fundraising for another kitty that week, little Peanutz the FIP kitten, but fortunately, we had funds in the Emergency Fund for Bella Mae's surgery!
Bella Mae's surgeon ran pre-surgical bloodwork and X-rays to get a better look at the tumor and to see if surgery was viable. Sadly, the X-rays revealed that the cancer has metastasized to Bella Mae's lungs and recommended palliative care.
Bella Mae has been doing well with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain medications. She is eating, drinking, and taking good care of her beautiful fur, indicating she's not ready yet. However, when it is time for Bella Mae to cross over the rainbow bridge, we will help with the arrangements.
Bella Mae's mom said, "We truly thank you for helping us to have extra time with her! She's the best cat I've ever had and known. This time, giving ALL the kids who know and love her time to say goodbye. We may not get to have them for the rest of our lives, but they do get to have us for the rest of theirs. We have already had much more time than they thought we'd have to begin with.. you guys are an absolute blessing. Not just from the bottom of our hearts, but with all of them - we thank you.
Though Bella Mae's story is not the happy ending we hoped for, she is comfortable and living her best cat life to the fullest.
The Emergency Fund helps pets like Bella Mae; it provides essential medical care so they do not suffer, and their families get to say goodbye, knowing they did everything they could for their beloved furbabies.
