Story
A disabled Army veteran’s service dog needs oral surgery. Otto is a very important pup, he is an ADA Certified Service Pet that helps his dad manage his Department of Veterans Affairs Service-Connected Disability. Otto has been diagnosed with Gingival hyperplasia a condition caused by excessive growth or thickening of the gum tissue.
This condition is more common in Boxers, Great Danes, Collies, Mastiffs, and Retriever breeds but may be seen in any breed. Gingival hyperplasia develops from inflammation due to bacteria and plaque or can occur secondary to certain medications. The surgical excision (gingivectomy) will restore the normal contour and height of the gum tissue. If left untreated the enlargement of the gum tissue could create a “pocket” and result in bone loss and infection.
The dental with x-rays, gingival growth removal, and a biopsy has been estimated at $1,087.00. Otto’s dad lives on a small disability check; he cannot afford Otto’s surgery. He reached out to the VA, the Army Emergency Relief organization, and the DAV for help but unfortunately, they said they could not offer assistance. Luckily, Otto’s dad found us!
Through thick and thin, Otto has been his dad’s loyal companion; their bond is unbreakable. This hardworking pup deserves the best veterinary care possible. Let's show Otto and his dad that they are not alone in this battle. Your kindness and generosity will go a long way in providing the medical care that Otto needs to get back on his paws.
