WHISKY HAD A SLIGHT SETBACK! πŸ™€

Whisky had surgery to remove a growth from his front right paw pad, which was causing him pain and hindering his ability to walk properly. Unfortunately, due to the tumor’s location, Whisky’s surgeon had to amputate one of his toes to excise the tumor completely. 😿

The surgery went well, and the mass was sent to the pathologist. The good news is that the growth is not cancerous. Whisky was diagnosed with Feline eosinophilic granuloma complex; a type of skin allergy that causes severe skin problems in cats. It's a condition usually triggered by something encountered in daily life, such as fleas, dust mites, food, or pollen.

This condition has no cure, but reducing his exposure to allergens will help keep Whisky healthy. Whisky was prescribed a prescription food and a long-acting steroid. Whisky's mom said he is doing great and can put full weight on his paw pad; something he has been unable to do for a long time.

Unfortunately, at Whisky's post-op check-up, due to the location of the surgery site, some of the sutures had loosened and he needed additional sutures put in. Whisky likes to paw at the carpet and this may have contributed to the sutures coming loose, so he has been confined to the laundry room which is tiled until his foot has completely healed.

Whisky will have another check-up and suture removal in 10 days. We will have more updates on Whisky soon!
