Ahi had his long-awaited dental surgery on Friday. Ahi had eight teeth extracted and a thorough cleaning. Because Ahi is diabetic, he was given additional IV fluids and medications to keep his glucose level stable. Ahi was discharged later that day. Ahi had his blood glucose checked (BG levels are taken hourly during a certain time frame before and after eating) to determine how much insulin he would need. Ahi was tested and was prescribed Vetsulin (insulin), 1 unit to be given every 12 hours. Ahi's dental surgery has been postponed until his BG levels are stable to ensure he can withstand going under anesthesia...
