NOT THE NEWS WE WERE HOPING FOR, POOR LEONIDAS. πΏ
Leonidas had a check-up and follow-up X-rays today to see if his broken leg has healed. Unfortunately, Leonidas still has a small hairline fracture, which his veterinarian is not immediately concerned about. However, Leonidas has lost a lot of muscle mass, and his leg is significantly shorter than his other back leg. This sweet boy has been the best patient through his months of recovery. π»
Leonidas' cast was removed, but it rubbed some areas raw and infected. Leonidas must wear a cone, and is being treated with antibiotics and pain medications. Leonidas' veterinarian wants to recheck him again in a few weeks to ensure the wounds have healed and see if he has gained some use of his leg. She also recommended physical therapy once his leg has healed. If Leonidas does not gain use of his leg; we may have to consider amputating it. π
We are heartbroken by this news and can only hope for the best for Leonidas. Please send healing thoughts and prayers for this handsome boy. π
We will have more updates on Leonidas soon.
Today's unexpected veterinary cost was $580.50. We used funds from the Emergency Fund to cover Leonidas' bill, but the fund is getting extremely low.
