Prescription Pet Food
Sometimes when we help a cat or dog overcome a veterinary emergency, they come out of the hospital needing prescription food for the rest of their lives. These animals need prescription food to avoid a life-threatening relapse.
In almost all cases, the owner agrees before we even take the case that they will pay for ongoing care, including prescription food. But we occasionally have exceptional circumstances where the owner needs a little help keeping the animal on an expensive prescription diet.
For example, Goose the cat, and his mom live on a fixed income due to his mom having MS. Therefore, we have agreed to pay for his food for as long as we can get donations for it. It costs $105 every two weeks.
We also have the case of Tito the dog, who has tried every possible type of food but needs Royal Canine, which costs over $200 a month. He is an extreme case who will literally block-up on any other food. His mom recently got laid off for the second time in a year and needs help to cover Tito until she can get back on track.
From time to time, other past cases need a little help for a short time, just to ensure no major set-backs.
We do order the food through Chewy and set up auto-ship to get discounts. Sometimes we are also able to get minor discounts on the orders as a nonprofit as well. So, we are being as cost-efficient as possible.
If you can spare any donation towards the prescription diet for these deserving animals, please donate today.
