Apache Princess is one of the greatest success stories in FTLOA history! 🐶

Apache Princess was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago. Her mom recently sent an update, and Apache Princess is still going strong! She said, "Because of "For the Love of Alex" my girl Apache Princess will celebrate her 16th birthday on October 7th. She was adopted at 11 years old and had cancer surgery 11 months later. She moves slower now but still has a zest for life. She continues to amaze me and her vet!"

Apache Princess’ incredible story:

Apache Princess was adopted on June 16, 2018; however, in October 2018, a lump appeared on her right side. Her mom hoped it was a fatty tumor. In December, her veterinarian sent cell samples to the lab; it came back as Soft Tissue Sarcoma, early stages. By February 2019, it had grown much larger. On March 18, 2019, Apache Princess’ mom took her to UTK for a Baseline Assessment to see if she could qualify for the grant. The oncologist found a small soft tissue sarcoma on her right hind paw. The oncologist and surgeon both felt she did qualify and that the cancer was curable with surgery and radiation.

The PBB grant covered her diagnostic tests. However, the surgery and radiation would cost an additional $9000-10,000. Her mom applied for various grants; The Mosby Fund gave her $500, and she started a GoFundMe account that raised $440 and a Facebook fundraiser that raised $525; a friend helped and gave $100, and Apaches Princess’ mom had $800 to her name. Surgery was scheduled for March 18, 2019, but Apache’s mom's fundraising efforts came short of thousands of dollars. FTLOA heard her story and stepped in to help with the rest of the cost. Apache Princess made a full recovery and is living the good life! ❤️
