Smokey needed a second surgery! πββ¬
We helped Smokey, a 2-year-old kitty from Oregon, in November 2023. Smokey was diagnosed with Entropian. A condition in cats where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes and fur to rub against the cornea. This can be painful and lead to blindness if left untreated. πΏ
Smokeyβs surgeon removed a small elliptical wedge of skin and fur near his eyelid margin, and Smokey made a full recovery. However, a few weeks ago, Smokey's left eye became infected; and his elderly dad took him back for a check-up.
Unfortunately, cats with very severe Entropion can develop a recurrence even after surgery due to chronic conjunctivitis or herpesvirus infection. Smokey's surgeon recommended repeating the procedure on his left eye.
Surgery was estimated to be around $900.00. Smokey's dad is 78 years old and lives on social security; he could not afford the surgery cost and asked if we could help.
We were already fundraising for Zoey the New York kitty this week, but we had funds available in the Emergency Fund, and Smokey had surgery on Monday. His dad said, "Smokey is doing great, better than I've ever seen him. Thank you so much for helping him again. I could never afford his surgery, but I can try and help pay it back. I have set up a monthly donation to help other pet owners, I am so grateful." π
Smokey will have a check-up in 10 days. We will have more updates soon!
