PONCHO'S SURGERY DID NOT GO AS PLANNED! πŸ™€

Poncho's veterinarian thought that the growth on his foot was a cyst however to make sure he took a punch biopsy of the site and sent it off to the laboratory for testing.

Sadly, we got the results back a week later and the mass is Fibrosarcoma; a malignant (cancerous) tumor that originates in the connective fibrous tissue found at the ends of leg and arm bones and spreads to other surrounding soft tissue.

The good news is the X-rays showed that the cancer was localized to the leg and had not spread to any organs. The only course of treatment was to remove Poncho's leg entirely.

Poncho had surgery and is doing well. His mom was allowed to visit him post-op and the veterinary hospital let Poncho stay overnight at no extra charge so mom could get post-op supplies the surgeon recommended such as a shallow litter box and recyclable newspaper cat littler to help Poncho adjust to life with 3 legs.

Though this was not the outcome we had hoped for, Poncho will live a good life cancer-free! We will have more updates on Poncho soon!

Thank you to our incredible donors who made this surgery happen, and thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes for Poncho and the other furry critters we help.
